The Philadelphia 76ers are entering a major transitional period following the dismissal of longtime executive Daryl Morey, and speculation surrounding the organization’s next front-office leader has already begun to surface.
Former Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers has taken temporary control of Philadelphia’s basketball operations and will lead the search for the franchise’s next president of basketball operations. Amid that process, questions emerged regarding whether Myers could bring former NBA Finals MVP Andre Iguodala into the organization.
NBA insider Jake Fischer addressed the speculation Wednesday in his latest report for The Stein Line, while also providing additional details about the Sixers’ ongoing restructuring.
“To be fair there have been rumbles all season about Morey's potentially shaky status. Ditto for Sixers coach Nick Nurse, who was informed Tuesday that he will continue to lead the team from the bench.”
Fischer reported that Myers, now serving as president of sports for Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, will temporarily oversee Philadelphia’s front office ahead of Elton Brand while simultaneously beginning the search process.
“The search for Morey's successor will be led by his former Warriors counterpart Bob Myers. Now president of sports for Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment and providing regular counsel to all the teams they own — including the NFL's Washington Commanders — Myers will also take temporary charge of the Sixers' front office (ahead of Elton Brand) until a new president of basketball operations is named.”

Fischer added that Myers is expected to return to a more limited advisory role once a permanent executive is hired.

“It was stressed to me Tuesday night that Myers — although he is scheduled to arrive soon in Chicago to dive into his various pressing tasks — will step back into an advisory role once Morey's successor is named.
I'm also told Myers will interview candidates internally as well as externally to take over … but also that it's far too early to name any possible favorites for the role.”
One of the more notable points in Fischer’s report involved Iguodala, who spent eight seasons with Philadelphia before later becoming a key part of multiple championship teams in Golden State alongside Myers.
Despite recent speculation connecting the two, Fischer reported that Iguodala is not currently expected to be considered for the role.
“One item, however, that has been spelled out rather definitively: For all the recent rumblings about Myers' affinity for former Golden State Finals MVP Andre Iguodala, I’m told Philadelphia does not plan to consider the ex-Sixer and current executive director of the NBA Players Association as a potential candidate for its new front office.”
Iguodala currently serves as executive director of the National Basketball Players Association, though Fischer noted that his tenure in the role is expected to conclude in June.
The Sixers’ organizational changes follow another disappointing postseason exit, increasing pressure on the franchise to reshape its leadership structure around stars Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey moving forward.
