"There's an expectation that he will be ready to play in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals, barring any setbacks. There's optimism for his status for Game 1," Charania reported.
Anunoby was seen getting up shots during Wednesday's practice, although head coach Mike Brown said he did not take part in the live scrimmage session.
The forward missed Games 3 and 4 against Philadelphia because of a right hamstring strain, but New York still completed a 4-0 sweep to reach the Eastern Conference Finals.
The Knicks will now face the winner of the series between the Detroit Pistons and the Cleveland Cavaliers, which is currently tied 2-2.
Before suffering the injury, Anunoby had been one of New York's standout playoff performers, averaging 21.4 points per game this postseason.
