BYU star AJ Dybantsa builds his dream NBA starting five

AJ Dybantsa took center stage during interviews at the NBA draft combine on Wednesday in Chicago.

The former BYU star showed up to the media availability wearing a suit. Something that Wizards reporter Chase Hughes said is the first he’s seen from an NBA draft prospect.

During his session with the media, one of the questions tossed Dybantsa’s way was, “Who would be his dream starting five in the NBA?” The reporter noted that Dybantsa could include himself.

The potential No. 1 NBA draft pick took a deep breath and said, “I’m about to get canceled for some of this.”

Dybantsa then went on to say his lineup, “I’ll put LeBron (James) at the one. I’ll put (Nikola) Jokic at the five. I’ll play the three. I’ll put KD (Kevin Durant) at the four, and I’ll have (Steph) Curry at the two, but he’s strictly there to shoot.”

Champions in the NBA

Can’t argue with that lineup as Dybantsa pays his respects to the stars who have been holding it down in the NBA throughout his life. Between LeBron, Jokic, Durant, and Curry, there are 11 NBA Championships.

Dybantsa has always pointed to Kevin Durant being his favorite player and someone he’s looked up to throughout his basketball career.

Coming out of the NBA draft combine, Dybantsa looks to be in a prime position for the Washington Wizards to take him with the No. 1 pick. However, there’s still a lot of time between now and June 23, when the NBA draft takes place in Brooklyn.

Dybantsa finished his one season at BYU with 25.5 points per game, leading the nation in scoring. He also earned the Julius Erving Award for the best small forward in college basketball this past season.
