(WFSB) - The Connecticut Sun will officially have a new owner and location for the 2027 season.
The WNBA announced Wednesday that them and the WNBA unamimously approved the sale and relocation of the Sun from the Mohegan Tribe to Tillman J. Fertitta, who owns the NBA’s Houston Rockets.
The Sun will still play the 2026 season at Mohegan Sun Arena. They will also host two regular season games at PeoplesBank Arena in Hartford in May and July and a game at TD Garden in August.
The team came about in 2003 after the Mohegan Tribe assumed ownership and relocated the franchise from Orlando, Florida.
They exerienced success early on during their time in Connecticut, making the WNBA Finals in 2004 and 2005. They would also make appearances in 2019 and 2022.
In total, the Sun made the playoffs 17 times in their 24 seasons.
They had many great players, including six time All Star Alyssa Thomas and 2x All-WNBA member Taj McWilliams-Franklin.
