Lakers’ Jeanie Buss isn’t ready to talk about a LeBron James statue yet

Fans are on the edge of their seats waiting for the next move of Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James. He admitted that he is still uncertain about his future after being swept in the second round of the playoffs by the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Some believe that he might finally retire, while others suggest that he should return to the Cleveland Cavaliers to finish his unparalleled career in his beloved hometown. Of course, he can also stay with the Lakers. James is now an unrestricted free agent.

Whatever he decides to do, the 41-year-old superstar has already cemented his legacy with the Lakers, leading them to the championship in 2020. James had a blunt response about his 23rd season, which saw the Lakers win 53 games.

Lakers governor Jeanie Buss was asked if the team would build a statue for the four-time MVP outside Crypto.com Arena.

“He's still playing! We don't talk about statues until someone retires. He's playing great,” said Buss in a video.

When prodded further and asked whether any other players deserve to get a statue from the Lakers, she did not answer directly.

“We’ve talked about that. The first statue was Magic (Johnson), then we went back and added Kareem (Abdul-Jabbar) and players like that. It's always out there,” added Buss.

Aside from Johnson and Abdul-Jabbar, the Lakers have also erected statues for Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe Bryant, Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, Pat Riley, and Chick Hearn.

To recall, it was reported that Buss grew frustrated with how much influence James has over the Lakers. She also allegedly felt that the future Hall of Famer was not sufficiently appreciative after the team drafted his son, Bronny James.

James pushed back on the supposed tension between him and Buss, maintaining that he has deep respect for her.

Buss' family sold the Lakers to Mark Walter for a record-breaking $10 billion valuation in June.
