Arne Slot’s response to Alisson transfer rumours: “I’m reading the same things”

Arne Slot has remained coy over rumours that Alisson will leave Liverpool for Juventus, as he was also asked about Ibrahima Konate‘s expiring contract.

Amid talk of Alisson leaving for Juventus this summer, Slot was questioned directly about the transfer links but refused to open up on the topic.

The head coach said: “Boring, same old answer. I’m reading the same things as you are probably reading but that’s not what I would talk about over here.”

The latest report on Alisson‘s future, via the reliable Globo Esporte, claim the goalkeeper is “in advanced negotiations” to leave this summer.

However, throughout the stories that he could move, there has always been an insistence that he would only depart ‘if it suits all parties’.

It was put to Slot that fans would like to know if he will leave so they can give their legendary goalkeeper a send-off, alongside Mo Salah and Andy Robertson.

“You can ask the question as many times as you want in different ways, but my answer will be the same,” Slot said.

“I think our fans need to support Alisson, no matter if it’s his last game or his first game and that’s what they’ve always done with all of our players.

“If he’s in goal tomorrow, they will support him and if he’s in goal next week, they will support him, and the same goes for next season.”

Alisson‘s contract is set to expire in 2027, with the club triggering a one-year extension back in March.

This isn’t necessarily an indication that he will stay at Anfield, though, as it could have been done to ensure Liverpool get a fee in the transfer market.

The 33-year-old has missed the last two months due to a hamstring injury, but he is now back in training and nearly ready to return.

Ahead of Friday’s match against Aston Villa, Slot explained: “Alisson trains with us again. Let’s see if he’s ready already or has to wait for one more week.”

Should the Brazilian not be fit, Giorgi Mamardashvili will play between the posts as he did against Chelsea, having taken over from Freddie Woodman who started the previous two games.

Slot was also asked about Ibrahima Konate‘s contract which expires at the end of the season, but like with Alisson, the Dutchman remained coy on the subject.

“If there’s a resolution we will tell the world, but at this point in time it’s not yet,” Slot commented.

“So yeah, the moment it is, we will share this information.”

Journalist David Ornstein provided the latest update on the contract saga this week, telling NBC: “The situation is still at a stalemate and it’s not looking particularly positive.

“Although, until either side walks away, there is still hope of course that that could reach a positive conclusion for him to stay at Anfield.”

The latest line on Konate’s contract, that talks have stalled, is somewhat surprising given that the player said “we are close to an agreement” just over three weeks ago.
