He supports Liverpool: FSG must hijack deal to sign £150,000-a-week star before it's too late…

Liverpool risk missing out on the signing of Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon this summer after the player reached an agreement in principle to join Bayern Munich.

The revelation came from GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Ben Jacobs on Wednesday as the England international looks set to leave St James' Park this summer.

Bayern is an attractive landing spot for the former Everton player, with the German club cruising to the Bundesliga title this season and reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Newcastle want £75million to sanction Gordon's exit and with Bayern and the Magpies in talks - Liverpool should hijack a move for Gordon this summer.

Liverpool links with Anthony Gordon persist

The Reds pursued a deal for Gordon back in 2024 and the links have never completely faded - and according to German outlet Bild, they remain interested in the 25-year-old.

Despite an approximate £450million outlay in the last summer transfer window, Liverpool are in need of further additions ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Gordon is predominantly a left-winger and that is an area Arne Slot's side need to strengthen. Supporters have become frustrated with Cody Gakpo's performances and on Saturday the home fans booed the decision to bring off youngster Rio Ngumoha as Gakpo remained on the pitch in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

Gordon, who earns £150,000-a-week at Newcastle according to accounts his company revealed last year, also has experience playing as a centre-forward and on the right wing. With Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike both sustaining long-term injuries this season, Gordon could provide cover through the middle at Anfield if that situation was to occur again.

He can also play on the right, which is another area Arne Slot's side need to strengthen with Mohamed Salah set to leave Anfield at the end of season.

There is no ready-made replacement already at Liverpool for the Egyptian and Gordon could be seen as a possible option.

Bayern have one of the most formidable forward lines in European football and Gordon would have a tough task unseating one of Luis Diaz, Harry Kane or Michael Olise from their respective positions.

The trio have scored an astonishing 103 goals between them this term, with Kane getting 55 while Diaz has chipped in with 26 and the other 22 have come via Olise.

At Liverpool, there is a more realistic route to regular minutes for Gordon given the struggles of their forwards this campaign and the pending exit of Salah.

Gordon himself is a boyhood Liverpool fan and was part of the academy at the club before being released at age 11. All his family remain supporters of the Anfield club.

Speaking to Gary Neville back in 2024, Gordon also revealed Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard was his idol while he was growing up.

"Steven Gerrard was my football hero growing up," Gordon said previously. "Coming from Liverpool, he was like a God in Liverpool, and he was an unbelievable player."

While Gordon has agreed terms with Bayern - if Liverpool were to make a move, the Newcastle man could be tempted to move back to his home city.
