Arne Slot involved in transfer talks with new players – Liverpool ‘priority’ emerges

Arne Slot has confirmed “talks have been ongoing” between Liverpool and potential signings, as reports suggest the club will prioritise new wingers this summer.

In the aftermath of Slot telling reporters that he has “every reason to believe” he will remain at Liverpool next season, *The Times*‘ Paul Joyce reiterated the support he retains from FSG.

The opinion is that there has been “a number of unprecedented challenges” which “have complicated the season,” though this overlooks that issues pre-date the current campaign, stretching back into 2024/25.

Nevertheless, plans for the summer are already underway, with the goal to “correct the faults” that remain despite the significant £450 million outlay last year.

According to Joyce, Liverpool “will prioritise the signing of wingers to improve performances,” with Leipzig’s Yan Diomande and PSG’s Bradley Barcola among those “assessed.”

The club are already in contact with targets for the summer, with Slot saying: “Our plans have been made and talks have been ongoing between the club and new players, and I am involved in that.”

Liverpool’s outlay last summer was briefed as building on the title-winning success for an assault on the Champions League, but instead has been revised as a transitional campaign.

There are several gaps in the squad that need to be addressed, with new wingers, depth in midfield, potentially a new goalkeeper and more options at full-back all likely to be considered.

Andy Robertson, Mo Salah and potentially Alisson‘s exit will also leave big shoes to fill in the leadership and culture department, which comes amid another expected transition this summer.

Last week, Slot explained the club’s plans will lead to “another little transition,” but that it will “probably not [be] as drastic as it was last summer.”

In addition to Diomande and Barcola, Liverpool have also been linked to Juventus winger Francisco Conceicao, Brighton‘s Yankuba Minteh and Hoffenheim’s Bazoumana Toure.
