Katie McCabe will leave Arsenal this summer when her contract expires. The Ireland international captain joined the club from Shelbourne in 2015 and made 305 appearances for the club, scoring 37 goals.
McCabe departs with one FA Cup, one WSL title, three League Cups, one UEFA Women’s Champions League and one FIFA Champions Cup to her name.
She has been capped 105 times and counting by Ireland and in 2023 became the first Irish player since Roy Keane to be nominated for the Ballon D’Or.
Katie has made her name as a versatile and committed player, almost never injured who wore her heart on her sleeve. She also had a penchant for long-range wonder goals and won the hearts of supporters over years and years of committed performances.
Our understanding is that McCabe was offered a new contract which was under discussion until recently, which is why an announcement could not be made ahead of Wednesday’s home game against Everton.
Director of Women’s Football Clare Wheatley said: “Over more than a decade at Arsenal, Katie has made a significant and lasting contribution to the history and success of our football club. Katie has led with passion and commitment, giving everything for the badge and forging a special bond with our supporters. She departs as a club legend and we are so proud of our shared journey together.”
