Liverpoolcould secure Champions League qualification with a win over Aston Villa on Friday, after which attention is likely to shift fully to the summer window.
There is work to be done both on the training ground and in the transfer market, with added pace and quality in wide areas a priority.
The club have already moved to strengthen in defence, agreeing a deal for Jérémy Jacquet from Stade Rennais for a fee that could reach £60million with add-ons.
Meanwhile, a former Liverpool defender is also making headlines amid transfer speculation. Nottingham Forest are keen to secure Neco Williams to a new contract amid growing Premier League interest in the full-back.
The 25-year-old has been an influential player for Forest this campaign, making 51 appearances and recently captaining the side.
The Wales international still has three years remaining on his current deal, which he signed last summer, but discussions over an improved contract are underway.
According to BBC Sport, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Manchester United and Everton have all made discreet enquiries to assess Neco Williams’ situation ahead of the summer window.
However, Nottingham Forest are determined to keep the former Liverpool defender at the City Ground and hope a new contract offer will resolve any uncertainty over his future. Williams joined Forest in July 2022 and has since made more than 150 appearances for the club.
Williams is not the only Nottingham Forest player expected to attract interest this summer. Morgan Gibbs-White has previously drawn strong attention, while Elliot Anderson could also be a potential target for rival clubs.
Neco Williams made 33 appearances for Liverpool after progressing through their academy, winning the Premier League, FIFA Club World Cup and League Cup. He also lifted the FA Youth Cup in 2018-19, marking a breakthrough season at the senior level the following campaign.
He made his senior debut in a memorable League Cup tie against Arsenal at Anfield, providing an assist for Divock Origi to level the match in stoppage time before Liverpool went on to win on penalties.
Williams went on to make 10 appearances that season, including six in the Premier League as Jurgen Klopp’s side secured the club’s first league title in 30 years.
The following campaign brought Champions League experience, including an assist for Curtis Jones in a win over Ajax. After featuring eight times in 2021–22, he joined Fulham on loan in February, scoring twice and providing two assists as Marco Silva guided them to promotion.
In July 2022, Williams made a permanent move to Nottingham Forest, where he has since become a regular first-team player.
