Liverpool have reportedly been handed a summer opportunity after Bournemouth confirmed Marcos Senesi will leave when his contract expires, putting the Argentine defender on course to become a free agent.
Senesi has already been linked with Liverpool in recent weeks, so the official confirmation only adds fresh intrigue to a transfer story that could gather pace quickly.
A Bournemouth statement read:
“AFC Bournemouth can confirm that Marcos Senesi will leave the club this summer upon the expiry of his contract, bringing an end to four memorable years on the south coast.”
Meanwhile, the Argentine defender said of his departure:
“From the first day I arrived, I felt at home at this club. I’m proud of everything we achieved over the last four years and I’m grateful for the support the fans have always given me.”
“AFC Bournemouth will always hold a special place for me and I will look back at my time here with fond memories. For now, there are still two big games left of the season and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together.”
Tottenham Hotspur reportedly already has an agreement in principle with Senesi, hinging on whether they manage to stay in the Premier League this season.
However, Ben Jacobs has suggested that Liverpool could look to hijack the transfer. But similar to Spurs, it appears it’s contingent on whether Ibrahima Konate moves on or not.
The 28-year-old Argentine centre-back, who joined the Cherries from Feyenoord for £10.5 million in 2022, has been important for Andoni Iraola this season despite communicating his decision to leave on a free transfer in January already.
Whether Liverpool turn that interest into a concrete move remains to be seen, especially with competition said to be coming from other Premier League sides as well as Juventus and Barcelona.
But with Bournemouth now braced for Senesi’s exit and the defender heading toward free agency, this is a transfer story that looks increasingly relevant for Liverpool as the summer window approaches.
