With Liverpool reportedly interested in Marcos Senesi, Bournemouth have now confirmed that he will be leaving the club this summer.
While the reintroduction of Giovanni Leoni and signing of Jeremy Jacquet will improve Liverpool’s strength in depth at centre-half, the Reds could still be left short if Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez leave.
Among the names linked with Liverpool ahead of the summer is Senesi, and it has now been confirmed that the 29-year-old will leave Bournemouth at the end of the season.
It means the centre-back will be available on a free transfer, making him a more viable option for the Reds who would likely have been unwilling to pay a big fee had he signed a new deal.

Senesi said: “From the first day I arrived, I felt at home at this club. I’m proud of everything we achieved over the last four years and I’m grateful for the support the fans have always given me.
“AFC Bournemouth will always hold a special place for me and I will look back at my time here with fond memories.
“For now, there are still two big games left of the season and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together.”

It is by no means a surefire thing that Liverpool will pursue Senesi, but it has been reported that he is on the Reds’ radar.
After the *i Paper*‘s Mark Douglas described a move to Anfield as “most likely,” the Athletic‘s David Ornstein then reported Tottenham as “leading contender.”
In addition, the Merseyside reporter Lewis Steele explained a similar situation to Anfield Index.
“What I was told is Spurs are top of the list there, but Liverpool have been looking at it because he is free,” Steele said.
“I think it makes sense for them to maybe do it if he’s a free agent.

“Obviously we know Richard Hughes has a good relationship with Bournemouth and will have a good relationship with Senesi as well, because he obviously signed him at Bournemouth.
“It’s certainly worth weighing up.
“Hughes signed him from Feyenoord as well, him and Slot were there at the same time. There might have been links way back when Slot first went to Liverpool.
“It’s certainly one to keep an eye on.”
Do Liverpool need Marcos Senesi?
If Konate remains at Liverpool, there would be less need to sign another defender thanks to the £55 million arrival of Jacquet from Rennes.
However, the latest update on Konate from Ornstein was that “the situation is still at a stalemate and it’s not looking particularly positive.”
It is also possible that Gomez will leave this summer after 11 years at the club.
“I think anything can happen. I don’t know is the honest answer,” Gomez said when asked about his future.
Senesi could be a good choice for Liverpool, but only if circumstances conspire to see the Reds short in defence. By then, though, another club may have secured the Bournemouth man who will be in demand.
