RB Leipzig could offer Harvey Elliott a chance to revive himself after his miserable spell at Aston Villa, with the Liverpool man being ‘discussed internally’ at the club.
BILD report that ‘Klopp’s favourite pupil’ is very much on the list at RB Leipzig this summer, after being a major topic of discussion last year.
Liverpool man discussed internally
The newspaper reports that the Liverpool midfielder’s name is ‘being discussed internally’ at the Bundesliga club. He is, though, not a top priority at this moment in time.
They are currently focused on re-signing Brajan Gruda from Brighton. He joined on loan in January and has made an impact at the club. The deal doesn’t include a purchase option, though.
So, negotiations are needed with Brighton to arrange another deal. The German side are currently focused on that. They recently cancelled a goodbye for the loanee at the last minute as talks continue.
But if they can’t get him back, on loan or with an obligation to buy, Harvey Elliot will come into play. He’s set to return to Liverpool this summer following a disastrous loan spell at Aston Villa.
His deal at Anfield runs until 2027 so a decision will need to be made this summer. Do Liverpool extend his contract or move him on? According to BILD, the latter is more likely. They even say a €15-20m deal could be on the cards.
Jurgen Klopp support
Leipzig already tried to sign the 23-year-old last summer. But Liverpool’s ‘many demands’ for a loan deal scuppered that move.
However, the player does have a ‘prominent advocate’ at the club in Jurgen Klopp. Elliot made 119 appearances under the German coach at Liverpool, and they share a close bond. He’s now the ‘global boss’ at Red Bull and could have his say on the matter.
In fact, there is even the possibility he could look to help his former protégé following his disastrous year at Aston Villa. But first it all depends on what happens with Gruda.
If a deal can’t be worked out for him, Harvey Elliott is a player that Leipzig know and like. A second attempt this summer cannot be ruled out.
