Tottenham face competition from Liverpool for potential Vicario replacement who has 14 clean…

Tottenham are scouring the market for goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario’s replacement.

Guglielmo Vicario has been Tottenham Hotspur’s undisputed No.1 since arriving from Italian club Empoli back in 2023, although, since undergoing groin surgery in mid-March, he hasn’t played for the club. Antonin Kinsky has deputised in Vicario’s absence, putting in strong performances in goal.

Over recent months, it has been widely reported that Inter Milan have set their sights on signing Vicario as they hunt for a new No.1 to replace Yann Sommer. Recently, it emerged that the Italian goalkeeper has reached a full agreement to join Inter Milan in the summer. The Serie A side must now agree on a fee with Spurs to sign the 29-year-old. The fee is expected to be in the region of €18m.

Roberto De Zerbi requires a press-resistant, calm and composed goalkeeper with strong technical skills, and Vicario doesn’t fit that bill. Kinsky has served that cause to some extent, but the Lilywhites would require a more commanding presence between the sticks. Thus, Vicario’s potential departure will leave our club in need of a new No.1 in the summer.

Tottenham face competition from Liverpool for Juventus goalkeeper

Recent reports suggest De Zerbi’s interest in signing Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio. If Spurs avoid relegation, they would do well to try to pursue the Italian glovesman.

Michele Di Gregorio had a loan spell at Juventus from Monza during the 2024/25 campaign and made the deal permanent last summer. The Italian’s performances have been hot and cold throughout this season, yet that hasn’t stopped clubs from looking at him as an option to strengthen their goalkeeping ranks. He has kept 14 clean sheets for Juventus this season.

Now, according to a report from Italian daily La Gazzetta dello Sport, Liverpool have shown an interest in recruiting De Gregorio as a potential replacement for their No.1, Alisson Becker. They have enquired about Di Gregorio in the past.

The most expensive Brazilian goalkeeper in the history of the game, Alisson, has been a great servant for Liverpool since arriving from AS Roma in 2018. However, the 33-year-old, who is currently out injured, has been linked with a departure in recent months, particularly to Italy. Juventus have set their sights on Alisson to potentially replace Di Gregorio, who is now being sought after by Liverpool.

This could lead to an exchange deal for the goalkeepers. The Reds’ interest in De Gregorio, though, would come as a blow for Tottenham. De Zerbi is understood to be an admirer of his compatriot and wants him to replace Vicario next season, but Liverpool’s interest in the Juventus man tends to complicate the situation.

Plus, the Turin giants eyeing Alisson makes it even more difficult for Tottenham to pursue De Gregorio. That said, it’d be wise for the North Londoners to seek alternatives to reinforce their goalkeeping unit in the summer.
