Liverpool transfer target Victor Froholdt has declared that he “would love” to stay at Porto for another season.

The Reds are one of three Premier League clubs (along with Arsenal and Newcastle) who have been linked with the 20-year-old in the Danish press over the past week or so.

Asked about his future, Froholdt said he has not thought about the possibility of leaving his current team:

“I already feel at home in Porto, and I’m very happy here. I would love to continue here next season, playing in the Champions League for FC Porto.”

Froholdt only moved to Portugal from FC Copenhagen for €20m in July last year, and he has already helped them secure a league title.

Liverpool are in the market for a midfielder

It is believed that the Reds will refresh their options in the middle of the park this summer. Curtis Jones is expected to leave after contract talks stalled, while there are doubts over the future of Alexis Mac Allister.

Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton has been mentioned as a potential target. He is slightly older than Froholdt and has Premier League experience on his side.

Froholdt does have a release clause

It has been claimed that the Denmark international has a buyout fee worth £73m, although his true asking price might well be significantly below that amount.

Froholdt doesn’t seem to be keen on leaving Porto quite yet, though, and you would think that Liverpool would likely be seeking options that have slightly longer track records at the highest level. Even so, he is someone who possesses plenty of potential.
