Arsenal are currently preparing for their huge Premier League clash with Burnley on Monday night, which could dictate whether Mikel Arteta’s side win the league this season.
The Gunners host the Clarets at the Emirates, knowing that a victory will pile the pressure onto Manchester City ahead of their trip to Bournemouth on Tuesday night. If the North Londoners do claim all three points on Monday, City will need to beat the Cherries to stay in the race.
With the title race now close to being concluded, discourse around Arteta’s team is rife, with many looking at ways to dismiss their imminent success. With that said, here is the latest Arsenal news today, including updates on Bernardo Silva, Bruno Fernandes and Mateus Fernandes.
Bernardo Silva on Arsenal and the Premier League title race
Bernardo Silva is set to leave City at the end of the season, after spending nine years at the Etihad, winning six league titles and a Champions League in the process. The Portuguese midfielder is now unlikely to bow out with a seventh league triumph, although he could yet be on for a domestic cup double.
Speaking in an interview with The Athletic, Silva revealed his thoughts on Arsenal and this season’s intense title battle.
“They’ve [Arsenal] been growing and… well, it’s a team that has been together for, what, five years now, so it’s only natural that they would man up a little bit and start challenging for titles, so, yeah, let’s see what happens,” he said.
““No, I’m not in love [with Arsenal]. I do believe our main rivals were Liverpool by far. I also believe – and I know this is very subjective – that if we were not in a transitional season and if we didn’t make so many mistakes, we would have won this league.
“I don’t say we would have won easily, but we would have won this league. So it’s quite frustrating.”
Bruno Fernandes thought Manchester United would sign Declan Rice
Silva’s comments have unsurprisingly wound up Arsenal supporters, and he’s not the only Portuguese midfielder to have said something to have irritated the Gunners’ fanbase over the last 24 hours.
In an interview with Joel Beya, Fernandes claimed that he always thought Declan Rice would play for Manchester United. The United playmaker revealed that he was ‘really sad’ when the England international opted to sign for Arsenal.

“I’ve always said, I’ve always thought that Rice was a player to play for Man United,” he said.
“And I was really sad when he chose to go to Arsenal. I didn’t know if there was an opportunity or a chance for him to come to Manchester United.
“But I’ve thought that he would be a perfect fit for our club.”
Arsenal interested in West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes
It’s well documented that Arsenal are already on the hunt for midfield reinforcements ahead of the summer transfer window. The likes of Elliott Anderson and Sandro Tonali have been mooted as potential targets for the Gunners, although a new red-hot link has emerged from nowhere over the last couple of days.
Arsenal are interested in signing West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes, according to Times Sport. The North Londoners are fond of the Portuguese’s attributes and view his potential acquisition has a market opportunity if the Hammers are to lose their Premier League status over the next ten days.
It’s likely that if the East London club do drop down to the Championship, they’ll be forced to sell their prized possession for a cut-price.
