A fresh hint over an imminent return to management for out of work Steven Gerrard has been dropped amid links with Burnley and Rangers.
The Liverpool icon has been out of work since leaving Al-Ettifaq in January 2025, with the Saudi side battling against Rangers.
Ahead of Danny Rohl being named Russell Martin's successor in October last year, Gerrard was locked in talks with Rangers owners Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe of 49ers Enterprises.
However, he walked away from a blockbuster return to the Glasgow giants after several rounds of discussions.
The Liverpool icon earned hero status during his time in the Ibrox dugout after he ended Celtic's stranglehold on the Scottish Premiership title in 2021. Since then, Gerrard has endured disappointing spells at Aston Villa and in the Saudi Pro League.
Despite knocking back Rangers, the 45-year-old stated that he wanted a "passionate" crowd and the chance to claim silverware in his next job - like he had at Ibrox.
Last week, he strongly hinted a quick-fire decision is looming over a return to the dugout - as he admitted he could miss October's All Star Legends clash between Liverpool and Manchester United in Malaysia.
Now organisers have admitted they are coming up with contingency plans to replace Gerrard for the event.
Steve Windsor of Pengarah Projects All Star Sports said: "It's something that is out of our control, but yes we are preparing. We have different scenarios and are taking steps, for the fans."
Rohl is facing major pressure at Ibrox after the Glasgow tumbled out of the title race with four defeats in a row in the Premiership post-split fixtures, alongside a public spat with outgoing captain James Tavernier.

Should the American owners turn to Gerrard again, the title-winning boss appears to have had his backroom team plans scuppered.
Record Sport previously revealed that Gerrard was eyeing an experienced assistant boss in Steve Holland - who has since picked up a role alongside Michael Carrick at Manchester United.
The Athletic now report that Holland will be offered a permanent role at Old Trafford having been "instrumental" in the upturn in form for United.
But speaking to BBC Sport’s Icons of Football series, Gerrard has talked up the influence of his former Liverpool teammate and Light Blues' No. 2 Gary McAliister: “He brought calmness to the dressing room, big-game knowledge, a lot of wisdom.
