Aston Villa have represented Birmingham and England with dignity this season, whatever happens in the Europa League final, Unai Emery’s programme notes say.

Villa take on Liverpool in their final home game of the season this evening, where a win would secure Champions League qualification, ahead of their clash with SC Freiburg in the Istanbul final on Wednesday.

Here are Emery’s final programme notes of the season…

“Since we kicked off back in August, we have shared many great moments together, along with a few matches - only a few - that did not go as we would have wished. But I honestly believe the team has risen to the occasion and has always given everything in this sanctuary of world football that is Villa Park.

“These final programme notes of the 2025-26 season are, above all, a message of gratitude to each and every supporter who has stood by us. We do not live in an ivory tower and we understand the difficulty and sacrifice involved in coming to the stadium and supporting us with your energy, your passion and your financial commitment through tickets and Season Tickets.

“None of it goes unnoticed. THANK YOU ALL ON BEHALF OF THE ENTIRE STAFF, SQUAD, AND BOARD. We have done everything possible to honour your commitment and to act responsibly in our management of the team. Some days we will be better, others worse, but no one here ever forgets who stands behind this club and this team.

“Although there is still the task of finishing the season strongly with today's match, next week's game in Manchester, and of course the final in Istanbul, regardless of an outcome that may ultimately elevate or overshadow everything, Aston Villa's campaign has confirmed that we are once again - and continue to be - a competitive side that represents Birmingham with dignity in England and, thanks to the efforts of the squad, the management, and the owners, also in European competitions.

“Today, it may seem natural for us to fight for European qualification, but it is not. Being one of the chosen clubs in the best league in the world to represent it internationally is not within everyone's reach, even if many aspire to do it with resources and talented professionals. Let us all fight together tonight to secure that qualification once again.”

“I would like to welcome Arne Slot, a brilliant manager, his players and his staff. We know that Liverpool are a very competitive and very dangerous opponent for us, so we must play the match in our best version and with your full energy.

“And don't forget to enjoy the way. We have worked so hard all season, now is the time for one last push. Up the Villa.”
