Jamie Carragher was left furious with Alexis Mac Allister after the Liverpool midfielder's reaction to his altercation with Aston Villa's Ezri Konsa.

Liverpool found itself 2-1 down at the time, with Ollie Watkins having just put Villa back ahead after Virgil van Dijk had leveled, with Morgan Rogers having opened the scoring during the first half with a superb finish.

Mac Allister went down after clashing with Konsa leading up to a corner, with the Argentine shoving him before the England international grabbed his opponent's shirt. Mac Allister went down holding his face after Konsa moved his hand upwards, but Carragher wasn't impressed.

"Honest to god. He goes down every game Mac Allister, with something round his ankle normally, not like that," Carragher said while commentating for Sky Sports.

"Embarrassing. Just get up."

Liverpool boss Arne Slot seemingly agreed with Carragher as he waved his arms up, signalling for Mac Allister to get back up, with the former defender continuing to lay into the midfielder.

"You know what, I’d be embarrassed if they send Konsa off for that," Carragher added.

"What I don’t understand is, Mac Allister and every player in this country must know we’re all going to be looking at the replays. We all know he hasn’t done what you’re trying to make out he’s done."

Things got even worse for Liverpool thereafter, with Watkins scoring his second of the game to make it 3-1, before John McGinn's stunning finish put the result beyond any doubt.

Van Dijk did give the visitors some late hope as his second made it 4-2 in stoppage time, but it proved to just be a consolation, with the wait for Champions League qualification moving into the final week of the season.

Liverpool will now have to wait and see how Bournemouth and Brighton get on before it faces Brentford in its last game at Anfield. A win for either - against Manchester City and Leeds respectively - would mean the Reds would go into their final encounter still in danger of missing out on a top-five finish.
