Liverpool boss Arne Slot has reacted after his side slumped to a 4-2 loss against Aston Villa in the Premier League Gameweek 37 encounter.
The winner of the game gained direct qualification into the UEFA Champions League next season. Villa scored through Morgan Rogers late in the first-half from a smartly taken corner routine. Virgil van Dijk scored the equalizer early in the second half from a Dominik Szoboszlai set-piece.
Villa took the game away from Liverpool after Van Dijk's equalizer. An unfortunate Szoboszlai slip saw the Reds lose possession to Rogers, who assisted Ollie Watkins as Villa retook the lead.
Watkins added a third in the 73rd minute before John McGinn scored a sensational goal from out of the box to make it 4-1 for the home team. Van Dijk scored his second of the night in stoppage time, and the game ended 4-2.
Speaking after the game, in the mixed zone, Arne Slot gave his take on the team's performance. He insisted that he was happy Liverpool scored 2 goals against Villa away from home, but highlighted the fact that they conceded too many goals. He said (via Sky Sports):
"We've definitely conceded far too many goals. We also haven't scored enough goals, although two at Villa Park is not bad. If you told me we did that before the game, I would think we are not far from a good result."
Slot then shed light on another key issue at the club at the moment, lack of chance creation.
"When we are the better team, we struggle to find that goal, mainly because we are not able to create big enough chances when we are the better team.
"When we have a period of time when we are struggling or the other team are better than us, we tend to concede too easy.
Arne Slot urges Anfield crowd to back Liverpool on final day of the season
Arne Slot has called for the Anfield faithful to back Liverpool as they look to seal UCL qualification. As of right now, only a win against Brentford on the final day of the season will guarantee the Reds a spot in the prestigious European tournament. He said:
"We are under full pressure, although it feels like we have been all season because of all the results we've had. All we can do is have a good week and be as well prepared as we can.
"It is a long week because we play next Sunday and now it is Friday. As always, we are hoping that our fans will be fully behind us because you could see tonight – as we have so many times at Anfield – how important it can be in a stadium when you are all together.
"But we need to show from the first minute that we deserve that support from our fans."
