Only Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City have taken more points than Aston Villa since Unai Emery was appointed Steven Gerrard’s successor back in November 2022.
Emery, who left La Liga outfit Villarreal to take the job at Villa Park, has done an exceptional job.
A 4-2 win over Liverpool on Friday night secured a place in the Champions League for the second time in three full seasons at Villa Park.
Overall, the Spanish coach has masterminded 72 wins and just 38 defeats from his 139 Premier League matches in charge of the club.
It has to be remembered where Emery found Villa.
Before his first game in charge, at home to Manchester United, Villa were languishing one place and one point above the relegation zone, three points off rock bottom, having won just two of their opening 13 matches last season.

Villa’s fortunes improved almost immediately, a 3-1 win over United marking the start of the new regime.
So commenced a slow and steady climb up the table, leading to a seventh-place finish and a Europa Conference League place.
In Emery’s full seasons in charge, Villa finished fourth in 2023-24, sixth in 2024-25, and now look set to finish fourth again after beating Liverpool to open up a three-point lead with one game to go.
Emery has also guided Villa to the Europa League final next week.
