Liverpool’s record away to other top-nine clubs in the Premier League this season is scarcely believable, and simply not acceptable.
Arne Slot put himself under more pressure on Friday night, overseeing a limp 4-2 defeat away to top-five rivals Aston Villa.
It means Liverpool will have to secure Champions League football on the final day at home to Brentford – a scenario that would have shocked supporters back in August.
This has been a season to forget for so many reasons, and while the Reds have toiled at Anfield at times, it is nothing compared to their away record.

Incredibly, Liverpool have gained just a single point from their eight matches away to the other top-nine sides in the Premier League in 2025/26.
That includes defeats at rivals Man United, Man City and Chelsea, with a minus 10 goal difference thrown in, too.
Ironically, Liverpool’s only point came away to likely champions Arsenal, following a drab 0-0 draw at the Emirates back in January.
The Gunners are also the only team that have failed to score against the Reds in the league this season, so their title may have to be stricken from the records!
Result Opposition Score
L Aston Villa 4-2
L Man United 3-2
L Brighton 2-1
L Bournemouth 3-2
D Arsenal 0-0
L Man City 3-0
L Brentford 3-2
L Chelsea 2-1
Why have Liverpool been SO bad on the road?
This is an appalling record for Liverpool, and one that sums up the soft underbelly that has been on show all season.
So often, Slot’s side have wilted on their travels in moments of adversity, with the Villa game perfect proof of this.
Virgil van Dijk‘s equaliser had got them back into the game, only for Dominik Szoboszlai to gift Ollie Watkins a goal, and Liverpool swiftly found themselves 4-1 down.
They also conceded in the dying minutes at Crystal Palace, Chelsea, Bournemouth and Wolves, highlighting a lack of focus and fitness late on in games.
It all points to a weak mentality away from home, with the players not having the belief and fight to get positive results.
This is a shadow of the Liverpool team that won the Premier League last season, when they lost only three of their 19 away matches, two of which were after the title was won.
