Liverpool and Arsenal have both been named among the clubs following Victor Froholdt closely in recent weeks. However, the FC Porto midfielder insists his focus remains firmly on staying in Portugal for now.
The Denmark international has become one of the breakout stories of the Portuguese season. Froholdt has played 49 matches in all competitions, scored eight goals and added seven assists while helping Porto reclaim the league title under manager Francesco Farioli.
That form has naturally intensified Premier League attention.
Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle United have all been linked with the midfielder over recent weeks. Reports in Denmark and Portugal have repeatedly named the clubs as admirers.
Chelsea had actually been the club most strongly associated with Froholdt before this latest interview emerged. This was largely because of the uncertainty surrounding Enzo Fernández at Stamford Bridge.
The Gunners, meanwhile, have already had scouts spotted at recent Porto matches as they continue monitoring the Dane’s progress closely.
But now Liverpool and Arsenal were specifically brought up directly to the player himself during an interview with A Bola. Despite this, Froholdt made clear he is trying to block out the growing noise around his future.
“I will be at Porto next season”
Froholdt was asked directly whether he could promise to stay at Porto for another season despite the increasing attention from England. The midfielder stopped short of making guarantees. However, his answer left little doubt about his current thinking.
“In football you can never promise anything, you can never predict the market,” he said. “But what I want is to stay here. That is the plan.”
The 20-year-old then doubled down on that position while discussing Porto’s return to the Champions League.
“I love being here and I would love to play in the UEFA Champions League with this badge,” Froholdt said while pointing at the Porto badge. “I am very happy here and I would love to play next season here. Surely I will be at the Dragão next season.”
Later in the interview, he was asked again whether it was fair to say he remains fully focused on Porto despite the transfer rumours.
“It is like I said, football is one of those sports where you can never be 100% sure, but in my head, next season I will be at the Dragão.”
Liverpool and Arsenal mentioned directly
The conversation then moved toward the Premier League interest itself. Liverpool and Arsenal were specifically named by the interviewer as clubs reportedly interested in signing him.
Froholdt again tried to distance himself from speculation rather than fuel it.
“No,” he replied when asked whether he had a dream league or dream club in mind. “To be fair I accept things when they happen.”
“I am happy to see people following me and to know the fans appreciate my work,” he explained. “I focus on the feedback I receive from the coaches, from the team and on the things I can do on the pitch.”
“Now I keep everything else away from where I am, because I am here playing for FC Porto and I am not focused on anything else”, he said.
A scary release clause
Froholdt was also asked about his £73m (€85m) release clause, which has become a major talking point in Portugal amid the interest from England’s biggest clubs.
The midfielder laughed while trying to avoid putting a value on himself.
“It is difficult to put a value on yourself,” he admitted. “It is a lot of money.”
Still, he also acknowledged he has ambitions beyond Portugal one day.
“Obviously I have dreams. I love playing here at FC Porto, but I also dream of playing for some of the best clubs in the world.”
For now, though, the message coming from the player remains remarkably calm despite the growing pressure around him.
Liverpool and Arsenal may be watching closely, Chelsea may still be hovering because of the Enzo Fernández situation, and Newcastle remain in the wider picture too, but Froholdt continues to insist his plan is to stay exactly where he is.
