Tottenham must bring in a quality goalkeeper to replace Guglielmo Vicario next season.
Tottenham Hotspur boss Roberto De Zerbi has recently publicly backed Guglielmo Vicario and insisted that the 29-year-old is his No.1, even though Antonin Kinsky has deputised brilliantly in his injury absence. However, recent reports suggest that Vicario has reached a full agreement with Inter Milan ahead of a potential summer move.
De Zerbi needs a reliable and commanding No.1 as Vicario’s replacement next season. To strengthen their goalkeeping department, Tottenham has identified Brighton and Hove Albion star Bart Verbruggen as a key target for the summer. The Netherlands international has continued to impress at Brighton, prompting Spurs to keep close tabs on his progress ahead of a potential move.
The Spurs boss wants to reunite with the 23-year-old, having coached him at Brighton. However, the pursuit of Bart Verbruggen is not going to be straightforward for the Lilywhites following the latest developments.

However, according to a report from TEAMtalk, Liverpool have now entered the race for Bart Verbruggen. They are assessing potential long-term replacements for Alisson Becker, and the Brighton goalkeeper has emerged as a target.
The Reds could lose No.1 Alisson Becker in the summer. Juventus have agreed personal terms in principle with the Brazilian international on a three-year deal, with an option for a further 12 months included. Arne Slot’s side have had goalkeeping issues this season, and losing their great servant in Alisson would be a big blow. As a result, the Merseyside giants have accelerated their work on potential replacements, with Verbruggen a concrete target.
Verbruggen has established himself as one of the Premier League’s best goalkeepers since moving to the Seagulls from Anderlecht in 2023. At 23, the Dutchman still has a lot to improve and can do so at a prestigious club like Liverpool. From Tottenham’s perspective, he could solve the club’s long-term goalkeeping woes.
Verbruggen would be an upgrade on Vicario, offering stability, calmness and reliability to the side. However, the latest development means Tottenham will likely have to look elsewhere if they are to fortify their goalkeeping ranks. The Lilywhites have also been showing an interest in Cagliari goalkeeper Elia Caprile. The North Londoners have scouted Caprile this season, but it is unknown how high he is on our club’s list of targets.
Coming back to the Brighton glovesman, will Tottenham compete with Liverpool and try to lure Verbruggen to North London? Only time will tell.
