Liverpool have now conceded 52 Premier League goals this season — officially their worst defensive record in a 38-game league campaign.
And the numbers only become more alarming the deeper you look.
Across all competitions, Liverpool have conceded 76 goals and suffered 20 defeats, making it the club’s highest number of losses in a single season this century.
For a club that entered the season as defending Premier League champions, those statistics are almost unbelievable.
Perhaps the most damning number of all is Liverpool’s record from set pieces.
They have now conceded 20 set-piece goals in the Premier League this season — the worst record in the entire division.
That is not bad luck.
That is not a temporary dip in form.
That is a structural problem that has gone unfixed all season long.
What makes the situation so frustrating for supporters is that the same weaknesses have appeared repeatedly for months.
Poor organisation.
Slow reactions.
A lack of aggression defending crosses and second balls.
And a team that looks mentally fragile whenever pressure arrives.
At this level, those issues inevitably lead to serious questions about coaching.
Because these are not isolated moments anymore.
This is a pattern that has defined Liverpool’s season.
For a side with players like Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konaté and Alisson Becker, producing defensive numbers this poor is almost impossible to ignore.
That’s why many supporters are now struggling to understand the lack of accountability surrounding Arne Slot.
At most elite clubs, statistics like these would place enormous pressure on a manager.
Especially when performances continue to decline and the same tactical problems appear week after week.
Instead, the feeling around Liverpool right now is confusion.
Because while the standards on the pitch have clearly collapsed, there still appears to be very little urgency from above to address it.
