Mohamed Salah says he will "give everything" to ensure that Liverpool qualifies for the Champions League this season, suggesting that the Reds need to get back to playing a "heavy metal" style.

In what could be read as a message to head coach Arne Slot and his teammates ahead of his final appearance for Liverpool, Salah says he wants to see things change at Anfield after seeing the Reds "crumble" to a 12th league defeat of the campaign at Aston Villa.

"I have witnessed this club go from doubters to believers, and from believers to champions," Salah wrote on social media. "It took hard work and I always did everything I could to help the club get there. Nothing makes me prouder than that.

"Us crumbling to yet another defeat this season was very painful and not what our fans deserve. I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies.

"That is the football I know how to play and that is the identity that needs to be recovered and kept for good. It cannot be negotiable and everyone that joins this club should adapt to it.

"Winning some games here and there is not what Liverpool should be about. All teams win games.

"Liverpool will always be a club that means a great deal to me and to my family. I want to see it succeed for long after I have moved on.

"As I’ve always said, qualifying to next season’s Champions League is the bare minimum and I will do everything I can to make that happen."

Liverpool concludes the season with a home game against Brentford, still needing another three points to get over the line and ensure that it comes inside the top five places.

Against Aston Villa, it was missing both Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike through injury, with Salah and Florian Wirtz only fit enough to come off the bench in the second half.

"There will definitely be a chance [Isak could return against Brentford]," Slot said post-match. "He missed pre-season as we all know and then he broke his leg.

"We've tried to be as careful as we could with him, taking into account that our other No.9, Hugo Ekitike, is out for such a long time, so we needed him as a result of that even more.

"We've tried to be as careful as we could, but I don't think it can come to anyone as a surprise if you miss your pre-season, if you then break your leg, that minor injuries can occur if you have to start in Premier League games immediately in that intensity.

"It's just a bit of bad luck for him that in the moment of time when he comes back, Hugo gets injured and we need him more. I expect him to train with us this week, but I cannot give any guarantees."
