Where would Liverpool be this season without Dominik Szoboszlai?
The Hungarian midfielder is a shoo-in for Liverpool's Player of the Year award, and while competition for such an honour is thin, he has been exceptional throughout the season, easily playing his finest season in a red shirt.
It's funny to look back at last summer's transfer window and consider the reaction to Liverpool's £115m acquisition of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, with many viewing that as the start of the end for Szoboszlai, who would surely be shoved to the side.

But Szoboszlai has been Liverpool's brilliant shining light this season, Arne Slot's saviour. He's turned out to be a sensational signing for this Liverpool side, and the Reds are now searching for their best signing since bringing him over from RB Leipzig for £60m.
Liverpool in talks to sign new winger
Slot led Liverpool out for their 20th defeat of the season at Villa Park on Friday night, but FSG appear to have maintained the faith in the Dutch head coach, preparing for the 2026/27 season with him in the dugout.
Whether Liverpool stick or twist remains to be seen, but with Mohamed Salah quitting after Anfield plays host to Brentford next week, there's no question that the Reds need an elite right-sided forward through the gates.
Well, according to The i Paper, Liverpool are interested in signing RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande this summer, with FSG already committed to spending around £75m on the Ivory Coast international.

Salah needs replacing, so it does certainly feel like a bid is in the making for the 19-year-old, who is quickly emerging as one of the most exciting young wingers in the world.
However, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested, so sporting director Richard Hughes will surely want to get this one wrapped up before the start of the World Cup over the pond.
Why Diomande could be Liverpool's best signing since Szoboszlai
Diomande's pace and potency is considered perfect for this struggling Liverpool squad. Not only would he arm Slot with a robust Salah replacement, but he would give struggling striker Alexander Isak the support to find the world-class form that led to his £125m arrival.

He might be young and inexperienced, but Diomande has the right skillset to replace Salah and lead Liverpool back into the limelight, becoming the main man for Slot's side down the line and maybe even rivalling Szoboszlai as the cream of the crop at the club.
Liverpool officials might have reservations over striking a big-money deal for a young player with impressive but unspectacular numbers in front of goal. However, he is accurate when shooting, and his progressive metrics speak of a potential superstar, with journalist Bence Bocsak even dubbing the teenager a "generational talent".
Whether Diomande would hit the ground running is another question. It certainly won't be easy to replace such a player as Salah. But FSG's intentions as to returning to the forefront of European football and staying there could hinge on young players still shaping into elite superstars, and Diomande fits the bill in that regard.
Defensively switched on and positionally dynamic, there is a certain Szoboszlai-esque air about him, even though the pair differ wildly in regard to their positional value.

Would signing this up-and-coming wide forward represent something of a risk? Perhaps it would, but Liverpool have gambled in the past, spending a shedload on a young Szoboszlai who, what would you know, made his way from Leipzig to Anfield.
