He's ready to leave: European giants plotting offer to sign long-serving Liverpool star - report

Liverpool star Joe Gomez is said to be 'particularly interested' in what AC Milan could offer him as the Serie A giants eye a summer move for the defender.

That is according to a report from the Daily Mail, with the outlet also crediting Turkish club Besiktas with an interest in the ex-Charlton Athletic player.

Gomez has been with Liverpool since 2015 but only has one year remaining on his current contract. He is the longest-serving player left in the Reds squad.

Much of his time at the club has been blighted by injury but he has rarely come in for major criticism when he has been available.

Injuries have continued to hamper his minutes this season with just six Premier League starts as the Reds look to seal a place in the Champions League for next campaign in their final two games.

AC Milan have previously expressed an interest in Gomez, who is said to be open to a proposal from the Italian giants.

As things stand, Liverpool only have two centre-backs contracted beyond the end of next season.

Alongside Gomez, Virgil van Dijk is also out of contract in 2027 while Ibrahima Konate's deal runs out this summer and no agreement has been reached on fresh terms.

Giovanni Leoni, who they signed from Parma for £26m last summer, has spent the season out with an ACL injury. Liverpool signed Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes for £55m in January with the young defender to join up with the squad this summer.

At the age of 28, Gomez still has plenty of time on his side but his persistent injury problems could see the Reds opt to sell him with just one year left on his deal.

Joe Gomez has already addressed his Liverpool future

Speaking in recent days, Gomez was questioned on his future at Anfield and did not provide any certainty on where he would be playing next season.

“I think anything can happen. I don’t know is the honest answer,” Gomez said.

“I’ve only got a year left so I don’t know, but whatever is meant to be will be, I guess.

“But I’m so grateful to have had this time here at this club. I’ll always be grateful to have had 11 years at a place like this.

“All I can do is be thankful and we’ll see.”

AC Milan made an attempt to sign Gomez last summer but the deal collapsed after Marc Guehi's proposed move to Anfield from Crystal Palace also fell through.

Gomez has made 272 appearances for Liverpool, providing 12 assists while he is still waiting for his first goal for the club.
