Liverpool have opened talks to sign an elite new midfielder for Arne Slot next season.
After such a significant and expensive transfer window last summer, it will be interesting to see how much the Merseyside club will be willing to spend later this year.
Some of the signings haven't worked out as expected, despite costing hefty amounts, so Liverpool need to be careful heading into the summer window.
The Reds need additions all over the pitch after such a disappointing season, which saw them fall behind in the Premier League title race.
Signing a new midfielder appears to be one of their priorities, which could signal that one of their current options is heading for the exit door.

Liverpool Open Mateus Fernandes Transfer Talks
Arne Slot
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Liverpool have opened talks to sign West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Merseyside club face a host of competition for his signature, including four other Premier League clubs, but they have made their move to try to bring the £70m-rated star to Anfield.
The Hammers don't want to lose Fernandes regardless of whether they finish in the relegation zone or not. If they are relegated, it's claimed that West Ham still won't let him leave on the cheap.
Fernandes, described as 'elite' and a 'young Steven Gerrard', only made the move to West Ham last summer, but after an impressive spell standing out during their disappointing season, he has already attracted interest from a host of clubs.
Fernandes a Perfect Option for Liverpool
West Ham United's Mateus Fernandes celebrates scoring vs Sunderland
Fernandes' ability to play in multiple positions in midfield makes him the perfect option for Liverpool heading into the summer window.
The Portuguese midfielder can play in a deeper role, as a number eight, or further forward in an attacking midfield position, making him a useful player to have in the squad.
After the way some of Liverpool's options in the middle of the park have performed this season, there's every chance Fernandes could walk straight into the starting XI if he did arrive at the club.
It would be an impressive coup if Liverpool can secure his signature, but it won't be an easy race to win with so much competition.
