Steven Gerrard: Mo Salah’s comments “damning” for Arne Slot – “Identity’s gone”

Steven Gerrard admits Mo Salah’s “unusual” social media post was “quite damning” to Arne Slot and his staff, with an indication the Liverpool dressing room is “not right.”

Salah captured the attention of everyone involved at Liverpool by dropping an explosive social media post condemning the style of play after “crumbling” to another defeat.

“I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies,” part of Salah’s post said.

His teammates offered a public show of support by liking or commenting on his post, while fans mostly backed what was said as concerns continue to mount for what is unfolding behind the scenes.

At the time of the post, Gerrard was on FA Cup final duty with TNT Sports, and his reaction fell in line with many others, in that it was “quite damning to the Liverpool manager and the staff.”

“Wow. Listen, that is extremely interesting,” Gerrard said in reaction to the Egyptian’s post. “Mo Salah doesn’t really speak much, and he doesn’t tweet, and he certainly doesn’t tweet like that.

“So, I think he’s sending a message to the outside that things in that Liverpool dressing room are not right.

“The identity’s gone, and it’s really hurting him to see it in front of his own eyes.

“I’m surprised at the timing, with one game to go, his last game for Liverpool.

“You guys know, you’ve been involved in the media, he very rarely speaks. He’s done interviews lately because he’s obviously bringing the curtain down on an incredible Liverpool career.

“But that is quite damning to the Liverpool manager and the staff in terms of where this team’s at. That’s my opinion on that.”

Gerrard went on to pose the question of, “Is he speaking off his own back for the sake of everyone else in the dressing room, who knows?” Adding, “it’s strange, it’s unusual.”

With Salah’s words coming ahead of his final week at Liverpool, Gerrard is expecting plenty of questions to be posed to the No. 11 during his media obligations.

“I’m really looking forward to the coming days, because that’s unusual for a Liverpool player, and it’s unusual for Mo Salah,” the former Liverpool captain said.

“‘Crumbling’ is a strong word. When you talk about a team and a dressing room, crumbling. It’s quite damning.”

Mo Salah’s post does not increase the pressure at Liverpool

After another embarrassing defeat on Friday night, Gerrard refused to entertain the idea that Salah has added to the pressure on Slot and the club.

“Listen, the pressure is on the players and the pressure is on the manager, because it hasn’t been nowhere near good enough,” Gerrard lambasted.

“The performance last night [at Villa] was terrible. It was awful. It was difficult to watch from start to finish, and it hurt me watching Liverpool last night. And I don’t normally say that.

“It was a tough 90 minutes last night. They got what they deserved; Villa were better all over the pitch. There was no fight, no desire, no passion, no patterns of play, no connection.

“They’re not moving around the pitch together. Individuals are miles off what I know they can perform at. It hurt me to watch Liverpool last night. It was nowhere near good.”
