This player has built one of the most durable careers in modern football, and it is a career that took him from Spain to the top of European football.
He came through the famous La Masia academy at FC Barcelona and made his senior debut at just 18.

That early start set the tone for a long career across Europe.
He is best known for his time at Liverpool FC, where he spent eight seasons from 2005 to 2013.
He won the Premier League Golden Glove three years in a row from 2006 to 2008.
He also played a key role in Liverpool’s 2006 FA Cup win, including a penalty shootout where he saved three penalties.
He later reached the 2007 Champions League final with the club and also lifted the League Cup.
After Liverpool, Reina continued across Europe.
He played for Napoli, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Lazio, Aston Villa and Como.
He also had two spells at Villarreal CF, first between 2002 and 2005, and later from 2022 to 2024.
On the international stage, he earned 36 caps for Spain and was part of the squad that won the 2010 World Cup, as well as Euro 2008 and Euro 2012.
Pepe Reina is now part of Villarreal’s squad heading into The Soccer Tournament (TST), a 7v7 competition that will be held in Cary, North Carolina.
The event takes place at WakeMed Soccer Park from May 27 to June 1, 2026.
It features 48 teams and a $1 million winner-take-all prize.
TST is played in a fast 7v7 format.
Matches begin with a group stage before moving into a knockout round. Games do not end on the clock in the usual way.
Instead, they finish under a “target score” rule, where teams must score a winning goal to end the match.
Villarreal’s squad includes former stars, academy players, and surprise names.
One of them is former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson, also known as “Ochocinco,” who joins as a guest player.
For Reina, it is another chapter in a long career that now continues in a very different kind of football setting.
