While Arsenal prepare for their crucial Premier League showdown with Burnley on Monday night, plenty of stories are bubbling under the surface at the Emirates.
The Gunners are on the precipice of a historic season, with two wins from their remaining two league matches guaranteeing their status as champions, while Mikel Arteta’s men also have a Champions League final to look forward to.
Before getting ahead of themselves, however, they must overcome an already-relegated Burnley side who will be eager to restore some pride to what has been a dire season. The Clarets haven’t won a league fixture since February, although the tension of the moment could get to the Gunners in N5, and thus, they must remain vigilant on Monday night.
With that said, here is the latest Arsenal news today, including updates on Mikel Arteta, Dusan Vlahovic and Xabi Alonso.
Fabrizio Romano provides Mikel Arteta contract update
There has been plenty of discussion about what will happen to Mikel Arteta if Arsenal fail to get over the line this season. However, with the Gunners on the brink of major silverware, it appears he’s set to be offered a new long-term contract.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano revealed that Arsenal and the manager are set to engage in talks over this potential deal in the summer.
“[A contract extension for Arteta is] a topic for after the end of the season,” the transfer guru said.
“Now the full focus is on the Premier League title and the Champions League. After that, any moment could be good for Arsenal and Arteta to continue their conversations and try to close the agreement over a new deal.”

Arsenal could be in the market for a striker this summer, with Kai Havertz’s fitness issues and Gabriel Jesus’ likely departure potentially prompting Andrea Berta to make a move in this position. While Julian Alvarez has been heavily linked with a switch to North London, the excessive fee Atletico Madrid are likely to demand for the Argentine makes this deal unlikely.
Thus, it seems as though Arsenal’s sporting director is considering alternatives. According to Mundo Deportivo, the Gunners are monitoring Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, who is set to be a free agent this summer when his contract with the Old Lady expires.
Vlahovic has been linked with Arsenal in the past, and this summer could finally be the moment where he arrives in N5. The Serbian has scored ten goals and provided two assists across all competitions for the Serie A giants this term.
Arsenal’s rivals Chelsea set to appoint Xabi Alonso
While they may currently be embroiled in an intense Premier League title race, Arsenal will already be looking ahead to next season and how they can sustain their spell at the top. In fact, they may be starting to get excited at what can happen based on what is going on at other clubs.
Manchester City are set to lose Pep Guardiola, Liverpool are in turmoil under Arne Slot, and Manchester United’s appointment of Michael Carrick won’t exactly strike fear into the Gunners. However, Chelsea’s latest move might actually somewhat concern the North London outfit.

The Blues are closing in on an agreement with Xabi Alonso for the Spaniard to take over at Stamford Bridge from next season. Despite only lasting a handful of months at the Bernabeu, Alonso has clearly demonstrated his managerial acumen in the past with Bayer Leverkusen and has the ability to rebuild a broken Chelsea.
