Katie McCabe reflects on Arsenal career after her final game

After 304 appearances for Arsenal, Katie McCabe walked out with the captain's armband for the Gunners at Anfield against Liverpool, marking her 305th and final moments of a decade-long career.

Even before leaving, she still had to notch up one more goal contribution by getting an assist for Mariona Caldentey's strike.

Supporters chanting her name and waving Irish flags

During the game, the Arsenal fans were chanting the full-back's famous chant of 'We've got McCabe', while also waving Irish flags around, something that the Irishwoman was taken aback by.

"Yeah, it was crazy, it made me smile walking out, it was first, and foremost, an honour to lead the girls out one more time.

"Walking out, it was like I was going to play for Ireland, there was that many Irish flags. There was a bit of laughing and joking within the team as well; Vic [Pelova] had goosebumps herself."

Being proud of the send off that she was given

"It made me so happy and proud. It just goes to show how amazing the supporters are. Being able to individually give me a send-off today meant a awful lot to me.

"It is crazy, we have come so far. I remember when two or three hundred people were at Borehamwood 10 years ago.

"It is amazing to see how and what we have created over the last ten years. We have built up an amazing fanbase, and they are packing up the away stand. 3000 fans today, yeah, there are no words for it, the dedication they show to the fans, and the club is amazing."

How a young McCabe from 2015 would react to the Arsenal career she has had

"I would say you're joking! Look for me, coming into this club, and watching Arsenal as a young girl on TV, watching Emma Byrne play for Arsenal, it was my absolute dream to have played for this football club.

"I am so proud to have done it for as long as I have, and it has been a ride with highs and lows, but we have picked ourselves up and looked after each other as a team. We have been able to win some amazing trophies together, and I hope that the fans know I have given every inch of myself to this team and this football club, but yeah, it is an emotional one, but also one I am very proud of."
