Mohamed Salah has taken a dig at manager Arne Slot following Liverpool’s struggles this season.
Liverpool are set to end the campaign trophyless and risk missing out on Champions League qualification.
Salah, through a social media post, said he wants to see the club ‘back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies’.
Reacting to the outburst, pundit Gary Neville said the Egyptian’s comment reflects badly on Slot.
He told Sky Sports: ” He’s pulled the pin out of a grenade and thrown it in the middle of the room. If it was a Man Utd player, I would be fuming.
“What you cannot do with this type of character is keep him quiet. If they have to say something at a point, they will say it, even if you don’t want to hear it. It was a telling comment.”
However, he went on to throw his support behind the Dutch manager despite calls for him to be sacked.
“I genuinely believe a manager who won the league 12 months ago should have another opportunity to get it right after a challenging season.”
Salah’s post has fuelled speculation over dressing-room unrest
Despite the different reactions to Salah’s comments, several players appear to agree with the forward’s assessment of the club.
Hugo Ekitike, Andy Robertson, and Dominik Szoboszlai were among players noticed to have liked the post.
Liverpool reportedly retain trust in Slot, but the Dutchman would find it difficult to change the Reds’ fortune without the players’ support.
