Gary Neville has delivered a brutal assessment of Mohamed Salah’s recent social media statement about Liverpool — claiming the Egyptian has created a hugely damaging situation inside the club.
Salah’s emotional message criticised Liverpool’s current standards and called for the club to rediscover the “heavy metal” football identity that once made them feared across Europe.
The post received huge support from supporters and even several Liverpool players publicly liked it.
But Neville believes the situation has now become explosive.
Speaking about the statement, Neville said:
“He’s pulled the pin out of a grenade right in the middle of the room and he’s walking out of the room.
Mo’s not happy over there. It’s not great.
If he was a Manchester United player I’d be fuming.”
It is classic Neville — dramatic, direct and guaranteed to divide opinion.
But underneath the strong wording, there is a serious point being made.
Because Salah’s comments have now created huge scrutiny around the dressing room, the manager and the hierarchy all at once.
Some supporters will completely disagree with Neville and argue Salah simply said what many Liverpool fans themselves have been thinking for months.
That the standards at the club have slipped badly and that Liverpool have lost the intensity and identity that previously made them champions.
For many fans, Salah’s honesty was refreshing rather than damaging.
Others, however, will understand Neville’s point.
Public comments from a player of Salah’s stature naturally create headlines, tension and questions about unity inside the dressing room.
Especially at a time when pressure is already growing around Arne Slot and uncertainty continues surrounding the club’s long-term direction.
What makes the situation even more fascinating is that this all comes ahead of Liverpool’s final game of the season.
Instead of focus being entirely on football, the conversation around the club has become dominated by tension, uncertainty and debate over leadership both on and off the pitch.
Whether people agree with Neville or not, one thing is undeniable:
Salah’s message has shaken Liverpool.
And the reaction to it — from pundits, players and supporters alike — shows just how fractured and emotional things currently feel around the club.
