Former Arsenal midfielder William Gallas thinks the Gunners need to sign a “replacement” for Martin Zubimendi, less than a year after his arrival from Real Sociedad.

The Spaniard has been left out of the starting lineup by manager Mikel Arteta in recent games, with Myles Lewis-Skelly taking his place. Gallas says club captain, Martin Odegaard, needs a player with a higher work rate to help him, and he says Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga would be the perfect addition:
“Martin Odegaard needs someone behind him to do the dirty work, to run, be ready physically, to challenge, to win the ball and give him the ball.”
“Arsenal already have one player like this, and that’s Declan Rice. But I think they need another player like that in that position, and I don’t think Martin Zubimendi can do that.”
“Someone like Eduardo Camavinga at Real Madrid can do this job in midfield. He would be a good replacement and a great signing for Arsenal.”
Zubimendi has dropped off after a strong start
Many pundits and fans were praising the Spanish international in the first half the season. He had scored 6 goals and provided 3 assists by the start of February.
However, it does appear as if fatigue has started to set in over the past few months. Whether Zubimendi’s drop in form justifies him being replaced, though, is another matter.

Could Arsenal sign Camavinga?
There have been reports that Real may consider offloading a midfielder if they choose to pursue either Enzo Fernandez or Rodri.
It was, however, assumed that Aurelien Tchouameni would be the one sacrificed, rather than Camavinga.
The 23-year-old has not always been a starter for Real this season, but he was in the starting eleven for the 2-0 win over Real Oviedo on Thursday evening.
