The latest Premier League transfer news involving Aston Villa, Tottenham, Liverpool and more

We’ve got less than a month to go until the summer transfer window opens, allowing Premier League clubs and those further afield to buy, sell and loan players for the first time since last January. We’re expecting a busy few months of wheeling and dealing in England’s top tier sides, as the ever-competitive division looks ahead to the 2026/27 campaign.

There’s also the added variable of the FIFA World Cup taking place this summer - an event which is likely to see a number of elite players hold off on deciding their future until their part in the competition is over. This is likely to see a serious amount of business done in July and August, as clubs scramble to get their squads in place ahead of the new season.

We’ll get things underway in north London, where Arsenal could be ready to bid farewell to Gabriel Jesus at the end of the season. The Brazil international has struggled greatly since joining Mikel Arteta’s side from Manchester City in 2022, with a persistent knee problem continually undermining his hopes of playing a key role for the side.

Caught Offside now suggest that the Gunners are ready to sell Jesus this summer, with a £30m offer likely to be enough to seal the deal. It’s claimed that the player’s “huge wages”, speculated to be north of £250k-per-week, could prove a stumbling block in getting him off the books, however. Serie A giants AC Milan and Juventus are named as potential destinations.

The 3AM Verdict: While the source the article credit for the player’s alleged wage is far from reliable, he’ll certainly be among the club’s top earners. Jesus’ struggles at Arsenal have been such a shame to witness, given how well he played for City, and a fresh start sounds like the best idea for both the club and the player. At 29-years-old, he’s still got a lot to give - if he can finally get his injury problems sorted for good.

Aston Villa ready to ‘smash transfer record’ for La Liga gem

Up next, we’ll scurry over to Villa Park, where Aston Villa are looking to freshen up their attacking options this summer. Top of their wishlist, according to Team Talk, is Real Sociedad attacker Ander Barrenetxea. The report claims that Villa boss Unai Emery is driving the push to sign the 24-year-old, who is capable of playing on either wing.

It’s asserted that Villa are a fan of the player’s creativity and technical abilities, but it appears that they’re not the only ones after him - Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester United are also said to be scouting the Spain international, who has spent his whole career with Real Sociedad to date. He’s said to have a release clause of around £66m, which Villa are apparently ready to pay.

The 3AM Verdict: Villa have had a pretty underwhelming time of it on the transfer front in the last couple of transfer windows, and really need to get it right this summer. Barrenetxea has been a real bright spark in an otherwise underwhelming season for his club, and could well excel in the Premier League. £66m is an awful lot of money, but with Champions League football next season, Villa should be able to spend a little more freely. It’s an undeniably expensive risk, though.

Liverpool could beat Spurs to sign Ligue 1 gem

We’ll pop down to Anfield next, where Liverpool are still on the hunt for their next Mohamed Salah. Football Insider reckon they’ve found their man: Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche. They state that the Reds are set to battle Tottenham to sign the 24-year-old this summer, and are likely to win the race, given the Champions League football they can offer next season.

Akliouche is heading to the World Cup with France this summer, and will be looking to add to his seven caps over the course of the tournament. Interestingly, the report then references some quotes from the outlet’s own podcast, where it says the Reds want to sign Akliouche and a replacement for Salah, which does rather contradict the premise of the article.

The 3AM Verdict: Liverpool will sign more than one attacking player this summer, that’s for sure. Ackliouche can play on the right, but he tends to play more of his minutes in a more central role. We thinkthey’ll sign RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomandeas the direct replacement for Salah, for what it’s worth. They could well bring in the Monaco attacker, too.
