Liverpool have put a £35 million price tag on Curtis Jones which “could yet prove prohibitive” for Inter Milan, according to a senior Merseyside journalist.

Given his fractured relationship with Arne Slot and the fact that he has just one year left on his contract, Jones is among the Liverpool players who could leave this summer.

Having turned down an approach from Inter in January, which reportedly included a loan-to-buy proposal for £34.6m, the Times‘ Paul Joyce has written that the Italian champions are now “considering resurrecting their interest.”

He reported that Jones “is valued at about £35m,” but “that potential fee could yet prove prohibitive” for Inter.

Tottenham also enquired about Jones in January, with Joyce adding: “Whether or not they stay in the Premier League would determine whether they also revisit their interest.”

Roberto De Zerbi’s side need just one point from their remaining games, against Chelsea and Everton, to effectively secure Premier League safety.

Curtis Jones ‘open’ to Inter Milan transfer

Despite Jones being a local Liverpudlian, circumstances have transpired for him to have “shown complete openness” to Inter, according to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The reporter claimed Jones has “shown complete openness” to Inter’s project and likes “the idea of coming to play in Italy.”

The 25-year-old was described as having “appreciated” the “intense attention Inter have been giving him since January,” during a time when contract talks with Liverpool are “completely on hold.”

While Jones has been receptive to transfer talks, Joyce has previously reported that his preference would still be to “stay at Liverpool if he could be the main man.”

The chances of that happening under Slot are looking increasingly slim, though.

Curtis Jones wants to be a more important figure

Having commented with an applause emoji on Mo Salah‘s recent post criticising the Reds’ current style of play, Jones is clearly unhappy with the situation at Liverpool.

Against Aston Villa, he started in midfield but moved to right-back where he has started six times this season.

It was only last week that Jones told Liverpoolfc.com of his desire to play in his favoured midfield position more often:

“I just enjoy playing. If I’m as a right-back, if I’m a centre-back or if I’m a striker, I just want to go and play.

“I am fortunate enough to have a quality that I’m comfortable on the ball and I’m confident in my own abilities. I’m not shy where I have to go and play.

“**I want to be in centre-midfield and I know that I’m good enough and I ‘should’ be playing there, but it’s all about the team and that’s what you have to put first.**“

The signs are all pointing to Jones leaving Anfield this summer, should Slot remain the manager.

As we saw with Harvey Elliott last summer, though, Liverpool will likely be unwilling to compromise on their price.
