Liverpool‘s interest in RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande has constantly been a topic of discussion this year.
Back in January, the winger encouraged the Reds to make approach by expressing his desire to join them.
At that time, he said: “I want to play for Liverpool. I’m a huge Liverpool fan. My dad dreams of seeing me play at Anfield!”
On April 13th, the 19-year-old said he’s happy with several reports of interest from the Reds and other clubs.
Later that month, Sport Witness covered claims from Germany of Liverpool’s meeting with his agent.
The Ivory Coast international has starred in his debut season at Leipzig, scoring 13 goals and contributing 10 assists from 36 matches. His impressive performances have already attracted interest from top clubs across Europe.
Liverpool and others suffer blow
Fussball Transfers report the Premier League side, along with Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are seriously considering signing him.
RB Leipzig are demanding €100m for Yan Diomande, whilst also working on renewing his contract.
The attacker has given a fresh interview to Kicker and FT have relayed his comments.
When asked whether he will stay at Leipzig next season, he said: “Yes.”
There’s no release clause in his contract, which expires in 2030, making it more challenging for his suitors.
Although the player has ruled out an exit in the upcoming window, he maintains the dream of jumping to a big club in the future.
“I’m under contract in Leipzig and I enjoy playing here. But after that, nobody knows what will happen. Everyone has ambitions, including me. My dream is to play at the highest level possible,” Diomande explained.
Our take: Liverpool need to look for alternative
Mohamed Salah has already confirmed his decision to leave Anfield after this season and the Reds need to sign his replacement.
Yan Diomande has been the main contender, but his latest comments rule out a summer transfer.
Therefore, Liverpool have to look for other options to replace outgoing Salah. They have TSG Hoffenheim star Bazoumana Touré in their target list.
