Arsenal make official move for youngster compared to Vinicius Jr

Arsenal have initiated contact with the camp of a highly-rated youngster ahead of the summer transfer window.

Despite being embroiled in an intense Premier League title race, Andrea Berta and Mikel Arteta aren’t prepared to rest on their laurels. The pair are drawing up transfer plans ahead of the summer window, as they look to strengthen the squad at their disposal to ensure they sustain their spell at the top, competing for major honours.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal, as have the likes of Sandro Tonali, Julian Alvarez and Bradley Barcola. However, alongside some of these glamorous marquee additions, the North Londoners are eager to acquire a handful of young prospects who can develop into superstars over the next few years.

Arsenal have made a ‘compelling offer’ to Jeremy Monga

Arsenal currently have the two youngest players to ever play in the Premier League on their books. Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman, both of whom made their debuts at 15, are still in the Gunners fold and will hope for more prominent roles in the first team next season.

However, both Nwaneri and Dowman predominantly operate on the right-hand side of the pitch, and the Gunners arguably have a void of young left-sided attacking talent developing through their academy. It looks as though Berta and Arteta are keen on addressing this by pursuing an exciting youngster from Leicester City.

According to HandofArsenal, the North London outfit have made a ‘compelling offer’ to Jeremy Monga’s representatives. Discussions have been held about his pathway to the first team if he agrees to swap the East Midlands for North London.

HandofArsenal suggests that even if Monga agrees to this offer, Arsenal will still need to agree a compensation fee with Leicester.

Who is Jeremy Monga?

Born and raised in Coventry, Monga left the Sky Blues’ academy at a young age to join Leicester’s youth set-up. Developing through the Foxes’ system, he made his first team debut at 15, replacing Bilal El Khannouss as a late substitute last season in the Premier League.

To this day, he is the only player to have played in the English top flight, since its 1992 rebrand, at the age of 15, alongside Nwaneri and Dowman. He went on to make seven appearances last season, largely under Ruud van Nistelrooy, and subsequently played a relatively prominent part in Leicester’s Championship campaign this term.

Despite the East Midlands side suffering a second consecutive relegation, Monga showed enough in his 20 appearances to garner interest from several top clubs. Arsenal are seemingly leading the race, as they look to source the future of the left side of their attack.

Monga has been compared to Vinicius Junior (from scout Jacek Kulig via Manchester City News), with his pace, dribbling ability and intelligence around the box reminiscent of a young version of the Brazilian winger. He has all the attributes to develop into an outstanding player, and Arsenal should undoubtedly look to snap him up before other clubs manage to.
