Mo Salah and Andy Robertson mosaics confirmed as Virgil van Dijk pays tribute

It has been confirmed that Mo Salah and Andy Robertson will be honoured with mosaics ahead of their final Liverpool match at Anfield, against Brentford.

Nine years ago, Liverpool were on the up but weren’t yet a world-class side.

Having finished fourth to qualify for the Champions League, the summer of 2017 saw Salah sign for £36.5 million from Roma, while Robertson arrived for £8m from relegated Hull.

The acquisition of the two future legends helped turn Liverpool into domestic and European champions, with the pair’s legacies arguably leaving them both in an all-time Reds XI.

With their time on Merseyside coming to an end at the end of the season, supporters are to create fan-organised mosaics for the duo that will be raised ahead of the Brentford game on Sunday.

The Kop will play host to Salah’s tribute, while the lower Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand will display an homage to Liverpool’s left-back.

After the game, we expect there will also be a chance for Salah and Robertson to wave goodbye to the crowd who have sung their names for eight years.

Virgil van Dijk signed for Liverpool midway through Salah and Robertson’s first season at the club, and he has been a constant by their sides.

“I think it’s pretty difficult to sum it up, obviously in a good way of course,” the Liverpool captain told in-house media.

“They’ve meant so much to the club, they’ve meant so much to me personally, they have meant so much to all the successes that we have achieved over all those years.

“And obviously as the human beings they are, I think it’s tough to replace that, it’s tough to move on from that, but that’s life as well.

“They have been absolutely amazing to be working with, to be playing with, to be having around and I’m 100 per cent going to miss them.”

Salah and Robertson are actually the two players with whom Van Dijk has most often shared a pitch in his career; the Dutchman has played 333 and 298 times with the forward and full-back, respectively.

Van Dijk isn’t in the same position as Salah and Robertson – his position in the team is safe for now – but come next season, at the expiration of his contract, it could be the captain to whom we are bidding farewell.

Volunteers are needed to help prepare the mosaics on Saturday morning. Please contact Andy Knott via email to help: [email protected]
