‘Something is wrong…’ - Former Liverpool ace sides with Mo Salah and gives Arne Slot sack…

A former Liverpool player has passionately defended Mohamed Salah's explosive outburst and believes Arne Slot should be sacked.

Liverpool have endured a difficult 2025/26 campaign as they will go trophyless this season, having won the Premier League title last year.

They suffered their latest setback at Villa Park as Unai Emery's Aston Villa secured a 4-2 victory last Friday.

Pressure is mounting on Slot, who is set to stay on as Liverpool manager next season. However, a fresh report has emerged suggesting the board are looking at four managers should they relieve the Dutchman of his duties.

Following Liverpool's 12th league defeat of the season, Salah issued a bombshell statement as he hit out at Slot and encouraged them to return to the "heavy metal" football that they played under Jurgen Klopp.

'Mohamed Salah Has Every Right to Criticise Arne Slot'

Ex-Liverpool star Jermaine Pennant has shared his thoughts on the row between Salah and Slot, backing the Egyptian star. He reckons every fan feels the same way as the Liverpool forward and believes he holds a higher status than the Reds manager.

Pennant, who was on the books at Liverpool for three seasons, also reckons Salah hasn't thrown Slot under the bus, claiming the style of football is not in the club's DNA.

"What Mo Salah has said, every single fan feels the same way and would say the same thing," he said on talkSPORT.

"Mo Salah, there's no player bigger than the club, but there's a player bigger than the manager and, unfortunately, Mo Salah has been at Liverpool a lot longer than Arne Slot. Mo Salah's won more things at Liverpool than Arne Slot. So, he has every single right. He's a legend for Liverpool, he single-handedly almost won the league last season, so he has every right to come out and say this is not good enough, this is not what Liverpool's DNA is, he has every single right and that's not throwing Arne Slot under the bus, he's stating the obvious."

'Something's Wrong With the Liverpool Board if They Keep Arne Slot'

Slot's position at Liverpool is under pressure, with Pennant insisting the 47-year-old should be fired following the club's dreadful season.

"Well, if the board thinks that this is the guy to stay in charge, then something's wrong with the board. Everyone can see this football, this Liverpool team, they broke almost every single record, which is not good," he added.

"And if the board ultimately thinks that next season is going to be any different, I'm just shocked. Because I personally don't see how."

Liverpool end their season with a home league fixture against Brentford on Sunday.
