Jamie Carragher has compared Mohamed Salah's social media comments to Cristiano Ronaldo's Manchester United outburst and labelled the Egyptian "selfish".
The Liverpool star came off the bench on Friday night as the Reds were well beaten, losing 4-2 at Aston Villa as familiar flaws were exposed once more. Arne Slot has now seen his side, who were champions this time last year, lose 12 times.
They have still not secured Champions League football with performances leaving a lot to be desired and Salah has fired a shot at the state of the team and their style of play - which many have seen has a parting shot at Slot with the 33-year-old departing this summer.
Salah claimed: "Us crumbling to yet another defeat this season was very painful and not what our fans deserve. I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies."
Carragher has been left angered by those comments, comparing them to those made by Ronaldo as he looked to force his Old Trafford exit in 2022, but is not shocked having seen it before.
He told Sky Sports: "I'm not surprised. I told everybody, 'something else will come before the end of the season. He'll drop another bomb a little bit like Ronaldo did on the way out of Manchester United'. I thought it may come after the end of the season when he'd moved on, but no.
"Less than two years ago, I called him selfish for doing an interview and I think that rings true again. Liverpool have a really important week. They are still not fully qualified for the Champions League and it should be about Liverpool FC, not Salah FC. It's vital that Liverpool make the Champions League positions, but I'm not surprised and it's not a good look at all."

Salah has endured his worst Liverpool season in almost a decade, scoring just 12 times. His performance levels have been so poor that Slot opted to drop him from the starting XI earlier this season, leading to a rare mixed zone interview whereby the Egyptian said he'd been "thrown under the bus".
Slot himself is under pressure to retain his role given Liverpool's demise and Carragher believes Salah is using that to his advantage. "Arne Slot is not in a position of great strength at Liverpool at the moment," he said. "And that's why Salah made his comments. He hasn't got the backing of the crowd right now, and that's why Salah's done it."
