Kai Havertz fires Arsenal closer to Premier League title with winner against Burnley

Arsenal secured a narrow 1-0 victory over relegated Burnley in the Premier League at the Emirates Stadium on Monday.

The visitors carved out the game’s first opening inside two minutes as Zian Flemming picked out Florentino Luis on the edge of the box, but the Brazilian dragged his first-time effort wide.

At the other end, Leandro Trossard picked out Kai Havertz from a short corner, but the German steered his effort wide.

In the 15th minute, Trossard went close to opening the scoring as he looked to find the top corner, but his effort came back off the post.

Moments later, the Clarets threatened again on the break as Mathis Tchaouna found Hannibal Mejbri at the back post, but he blazed over the bar.

In the 37th minute, Havertz fired the Gunners ahead after he rose highest to meet Bukayo Saka’s corner.

On the stroke of half-time, Saka nearly doubled Arsenal’s advantage after latching onto Havertz’s pass, but his curling effort drifted just wide.

Five minutes after the restart, Anthony almost restored parity for the visitors after Eberechi Eze was dispossessed, but his effort flew over the bar.

At the other end, the hosts came close to doubling their lead once more, but Eze’s volley from Cristhian Mosquera’s cross crashed against the woodwork.

Arsenal escaped punishment in the 67th minute when VAR upheld referee Paul Tierney’s call to show Kai Havertz a yellow card for his rash challenge on Wesley Ugochukwu.

The Gunners held on to secure all three points, with another win at Crystal Palace on the final day set to confirm their first Premier League title since 2004.
