Today, we start off with a story involving Liverpool which comes courtesy of Sport Witness, who cite sources in Italy when claiming that the Reds are showing “significant interest” in striking a deal for Inter Milan wing-back Denzel Dumfries.

Dumfries’ father, Boris, who acts as the Dutchman’s agent, was apparently “unhappy” that a proposed January move to Anfield fell through and is now trying to secure his son’s “dream” transfer – although Barcelona are also said to be interested and could launch a rival bid if they sell Jules Koundé.

Liverpool are already said to have “made contact,” which could suggest that they’re ahead in the race, but there’s no word on whether any serious negotiations have yet taken place. The 30-year-old Dumfries has a release clause in his contract which comes into force in July and would allow him to leave for just €25m (£21.5m). As such, his future won’t be decided until then.

The 3AM Verdict: Dumfries is a realgossip column regular but never actually goes anywhere - but perhaps if the reporting regarding his alleged release clause is accurate then a deal does finally get done this time. The link with Liverpool appears to be quite strong, but that doesn’t mean that someone else won’t muscle their way in.

Newcastle & Everton among sides bidding for Brighton star

Let’s take in a story from TEAMtalk, now – according to them, Newcastle United and Everton are among seven Premier League teams who are “battling” to secure the signature of Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Solly March, who is set to leave the Amex Stadium this summer.

Brighton elected not to activate a one-year extension option they had on March’s contract, meaning that the 31-year-old, who has had a rough ride with injuries recently, will become a free agent. Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Fulham have all demonstrated “expressions of interest,” while new boys Ipswich Town and Coventry City are keen too.

Apparently March’s experience and affordability has marked him out as “one of the most attractive market opportunities” of the window, the report adds, but it’s not made clear which way March himself might be leaning, and nor is there any confirmation that of the interested parties have made a contract offer just yet.

The 3AM Verdict: Much will hinge on whether March is content to continue his career as a back-up at a bigger side or whether he wants to be a regular starter – if it’s the latter, then the newly-promoted sides surely become serious candidates. March will be playing somewhere other than Brighton come July, but it’s too early to say where.

Leeds ‘tussling’ to land MLS man

Let’s round today’s column off with another story from Sport Witness, this time concerning Leeds – they allege that Daniel Farke’s side are “tussling” with Spanish side Celta Vigo for the signing of Philadelphia Union midfielder Jovan Lukić.

The 24-year-old was impressive in his debut season in the MLS as Philadelphia topped the regular season standings and has continued to play well even as his team have collapsed from first place to last – and multiple sources confirm that his form has been sufficient for Leeds to “take notice” of his talents.

There’s no word on a likely transfer fee, nor any evidence that Philadelphia are open to selling the Serbian, but the chances are that the asking price would be within both sides’ grasp. It’s not clear whether Leeds or Celta have the lead in this particular race.

The 3AM Verdict: Although there’s not much detail to work with here, multiple sources corroborating the same story does suggest that there’s some flesh on the bones. Lukić is a hard-working ball-winning midfielder who should suitDaniel Farke’s system, so we could certainly see him being targeted as a (probably budget-friendly) depth piece.
