Trippier became the first signing under the new PIF era after joining from Atletico Madrid in January 2022 and has gone on to achieve iconic status at St James’ Park.

The 35-year-old played in the Carabao Cup final win over Liverpool last year as the Magpies ended their 56-year trophy drought and has twice helped the club qualify for the Champions League.

Kieran Trippier issues one final Newcastle United

Trippier was named in the starting XI as Newcastle fan group Wor Flags paid tribute to right-back in the final home game of the season against West Ham United but was left on the bench for Sunday’s season finale at Fulham.

The 54-capped England international is leaving United when his contract expires on June 30 and has taken to social media to issue one final goodbye message.

“From the moment I walked through the doors at Newcastle United F.C., I knew this club was special,” Trippier wrote on Instagram. “To wear the black and white, to lead this team, and to play in front of all you incredible fans at St James’ Park is something I’ll carry with me forever.

“We’ve shared so many memorable moments from the unforgettable Champions League nights to lifting the Carabao Cup at Wembley and making history. You gave me everything, and I hope I gave that back every time I stepped onto the pitch.

“To the staff, my teammates, and the supporters thank you for trusting me, pushing me, and standing by me. It’s been an honour to be part of this journey and to wear the captain’s armband with pride.

“Newcastle will always have a place in my heart. Tripps 🖤🤍”

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has enjoyed a close relationship with Trippier, having previously worked with him at Burnley too, and has said his next club will be lucky to have him.
