Alisson to stay: Top journalists confirm Liverpool transfer stance

Alisson is now expected to stay at Liverpool beyond the summer despite talks with Juventus, with a number of reliable sources reporting the club’s stance.

Alisson had been widely tipped to join Juventus after the end of the season despite Liverpool triggering a clause to extend his contract to 2027.

The Brazilian was claimed to have already agreed terms with the Serie A side, while it was suggested that even their failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League would not deter his desire to join.

But Sky Sports‘ Merseyside reporter Vinny O’Connor and transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano are among those to now report that Alisson is set to stay.

O’Connor writes that the 33-year-old is “expected to remain a Liverpool player next season,” while Romano wrote on X that the club had told their No. 1 that they “plan to keep him for one more year.”

Juventus are reported to have offered terms beyond Alisson‘s current deal at Anfield but Liverpool “insist to keep him” and “only player position could change [their stance].”

It seems unlikely that Alisson will look to force a move with it frequently communicated that he would only leave with the blessing of the club.

Earlier this week, winwin reporter Ismail Mahmoud – who broke the news of Alisson‘s contract extension – claimed via a source close to the player that he is “very happy at the club.”

If Liverpool are pushing to keep him that casts doubt over the immediate future of Giorgi Mamardashvili, who spent his first campaign as backup but is clearly seeking a first-choice role.

Why Alisson stay could affect Giorgi Mamardashvili

Mamardashvili has failed to fully convince since his £29 million move from Valencia, with the Georgian an accomplished shot-stopper but not as well-rounded as the goalkeeper he is looking to replace.

A prolonged stay for Alisson could impact Mamardashvili’s ambitions to take over between the sticks and it could even suggest a move is in the offing.

Liverpool have already been exploring the goalkeeper market for options in the event Alisson joined Juventus and no doubt a variety of potential No. 1s emerged.

Keeping Alisson would be a smart decision not only due to his continued status as the best at the club and one of the best in world football, but also the loss of leaders such as Mo Salah and Andy Robertson this summer.

With Robertson vacating the vice-captaincy as he departs on a free transfer, Alisson is a convincing candidate to take over duties.
