James Ward-Prowse may have a part to play for West Ham United next season.

Nuno Espirito Santo seems to have made many enemies throughout his time with the Hammers, and Ward-Prowse was one of them.

Even when the Irons faced a midfield shortage, Nuno opted against utilising the former Saints star, who moved to Burnley on loan for the season.

Burnley suffered an identical fate to West Ham in terms of relegation and will be among the favourites for promotion again this time next year.

And despite Ward-Prowse being linked with an exit, he may have a part to play.

West Ham manager latest as Nuno faces sack

Reports emerged on Monday claiming that West Ham have held crisis talks, with it expected that Nuno will be moved on, which will shock very few, given the season the Hammers have had.

Scott Parker is said to be in the frame to replace him at the London Stadium, just months after he was relieved of his duties at Turf Moor.

Parker’s record in the Championship speaks volumes, having achieved promotion with Burnley, Fulham and Bournemouth throughout his career.

However, it may also reveal a lot about the future of Ward-Prowse, whom he used a fair amount in his starting 11 prior to his sacking.

Ward-Prowse’s contract situation examined

The veteran midfielder and set-piece specialist will have one year left on his deal with West Ham come the summer.

There remains a chance that the Hammers look to cash in on him while they can, and if any other manager aside from Parker is to be hired, that remains likely.

However, if the ex-Burnley boss is to be the one chosen to replace Nuno, then there is every chance that Ward-Prowse will see out the remainder of his contract at the London Stadium.

The 31-year-old has made 73 appearances for the Irons since joining from Southampton in 2023, with eight goals and 12 assists to his name.
