Newcastle United's 16-goal star Harvey Barnes has been linked with a move to Premier League rivals Aston Villa.

The second city club have had a long-term interest in Barnes, but Newcastle must consider every potential sale carefully this summer, and Barnes' future depends largely on developments with Anthony Gordon.

[It remains to be seen whether Newcastle can get a deal done for Gordon with Bayern Munich](http://It remains to be seen whether Newcastle can get a deal done for Gordon with Bayern Munich) before the World Cup after talks over a £75m exit. Gordon has not kicked a ball for Newcastle since early April and appears to be on his way out.

If Gordon does go, head coach Eddie Howe would want assurances of two top-notch replacements should United decide to cash in on Barnes. He has two years left on his contract, and Newcastle would want to see a profit on the £38m they paid for him in 2023.

He has scored 30 goals and made 14 assists in 120 appearances for the Magpies, and should Gordon leave, he will have a free run at the left wing slot. Barnes is understood to have had clarification on his future from Newcastle insiders, with Eddie Howe delighted with his contributions this season.

Truth on Jonathan David talk

The Canada international was linked with Newcastle throughout 2024 and 2025 as he ran down his contract at Lille. But Newcastle did not make the move to sign the Ligue 1 goal machine, and he ended up signing for Juventus.

The goals have not come as easily for David in Serie A this season with just six to his name in the Italian top-flight from 35 matches. David also grabbed a couple in the Champions League, but stories of a sale have emerged in Turin.

A fee of around £25m could lure David from Juve, but after United's name was thrown into the mix, Chronicle Live has been told stories of David's agent contacting Newcastle for renewed transfer talks aren't true.

As things stand, Eddie Howe is not looking for a striker and could start the new season with Willliam Osula, Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade as his three main forwards.

Howe said earlier this month: "Certainly not at the moment because, in terms of striker, we’ve got healthy numbers in that position.

"It’s been a challenge for us trying to find the right balance and trying to find a way to continually score goals and create the amount of chances that we want to. I don’t think we’re quite there yet, we’ve got work to do in that area."

Odysseas Vlachodimos future to be decided

The Greek goalkeeper is another star with two years left on his contract and Newcastle will sell him if they get the right asking price. He has spent the season on loan at Sevilla and made 34 appearances in Spain.

Sevilla successfully avoided relegation the plan is to hold on to the ex-Nottingham Forest man after his ill-fated move to Tyneside. He arrived as part of a swap deal for Elliot Anderson and the move has not worked out.

Sevilla director Antonio Cordin said last month: "We’d like to keep him. We’ll see, he’s very happy in the city. It’s a city that’s important for every player who comes here. Nobody wants to leave and he certainly intends to stay."
