Former Wolves hero who suffered 2012 relegation makes supporter call

The former winger was part of the last Wolves side to get relegated from the Premier League.

A former fan favourite who was part of the last Wolves side to suffer relegation from the Premier League has called on the fans to stick together in a bid to secure an immediate return to the top flight.

Wolves’ fate in the top flight has long been accepted - but their relegation after eight years in the Premier League as officially confirmed in late April.

They have then continued to limp towards the end of the season - ending the campaign with back to back draws.

It has been a dismal campaign from start to finish - and comes 14 years after they last dropped out of the top flight.

Back then, winger Matt Jarvis was among the side that went down before he departed for West Ham for £7.5m, as a number of big players left the club.

Jarvis went on to spend three years at the Hammers, who themselves suffered relegation to the Championship on the final day of the campaign, for the first time since 2011.

The former wide man, who ended his career back in 2021, believes there have been big similarities between his two former clubs, with lots of questions for both to answer.

However, he has called on the fans at both clubs to stick together - in a bid to secure an immediate Premier League return.

Posting on X, the winger, who played 175 times for Wolves, said: “Devastated that two of my former clubs have been relegated this season and both need rebuilding over the summer.

“There will be lots of questions for both clubs to answer, especially around recruitment and potential changes of manager and players.

“The Championship is a difficult league and it will be a tough season for both teams, with lots of teams looking for promotion next season.

“I know it hurts right now for both sets of fans, but we all need to stick together and stand behind these two fantastic clubs.

“I have so much respect for the fans and I’m gutted to see both clubs go down, but I know that next season can be a much more positive one for everyone.”
